Why do we conduct an initial consultation?
Get to know you and your child.
The initial consultation is a crucial step in the tutoring journey, allowing us to meet you and your child. This meeting helps us to understand your child’s educational needs, strengths, and areas for improvement. By establishing a rapport and gaining insights into their unique learning style, we can tailor our approach to support their individual goals. This personalised connection fosters a positive learning environment, setting the foundation for effective tutoring and collaboration moving forward.
Define your child’s ability and goals.
In the first consultation, it is essential to establish a clear understanding of your child's current abilities and set achievable goals.
We begin by assessing your child's current progress, this can involve discussing recent achievements, challenges they may be facing, and feedback from teachers or caregivers. Engaging your child in this conversation may also provide valuable insights into their self-perceptions and motivations.
Next, we identify specific, measurable goals tailored to your child's unique strengths and areas for improvement. These goals may encompass short-term targets, such as enhancing reading comprehension or improving mathematical skills, or long-term targets like qualifying for a University course.
Develop a study plan to meet these goals for the term.
The initial consultation concludes with our tutor setting an action-plan for your child to achieve their goals in the term and semester. A goal check-in schedule is established and a study schedule is confirmed for the exams for the term. This is reviewed in a lesson every two weeks to ensure consistency with these goals.
